Where are we going today? What are we doing today?

Posted on March 25, 2026April 3, 2026 By Sandara

When I was a girl, I used to ask my mother these questions. Almost every day, I’m told. And she would try her hardest to give a new learning experience to her daughter amid all her other tasks and duties. Almost every day. Apparently, I never stopped asking myself, where am I going today? What am I going to do? And most importantly, what new thing am I going to learn today?

North India Early 2026
Overnight bus from Dharamshala to Delhi – 10 hour ride.
A picture for my sister thanking her for her gift. The most handy lightweight blanket/sarong/scarf! Soft and snuggly. Used everywhere I go. Love ya sis.

I dreamed of being an expatriate when I was growing up outside of NYC. I remember creating art projects dedicated to travel: subway cars, city landscapes, and other explorations of foreign lands. I didn’t realize I was trying to escape. I love to go. I love to explore. I really love to see how other cultures live—same same and the different, too. Half a decade on this planet and I still love to go.

Out doing some shopping. Kampot, Cambodia. Summer 2025.
Hard to see but I bought a scythe – and it is clear taped to the back seat.

I’ve traveled on little money. It’s my thing. I don’t like anything fussy. I’ve worked in a handful of countries over the last decade. I vow to myself that I will travel until I lose the will or ability to go wherever I want. To see as much of the world as I can without being crabby and entitled towards others when I’m in a bad mood because I didn’t (choose one of the long list of complaints: didn’t sleep/eat/rest/clean properly etc etc)

Suva, Fiji. 2022 The beginning of my pasta habit.
I made dinner for the whole school. It was a very small school. Tried a bolognaise. Was good.

So, I’ve learned a lot over the years of my life on and around this planet. It is time for others, especially my loved ones, to read, experience, maybe understand, and definitely learn how to pack from my lifestyle. With technology, now we can. Let’s see what this middle-aged lady can do with values like truth, beauty, and modern technology that only minimally involves all the technological ‘help.’
